Position Title: Part-Time School Nurse - 2 days per week (one year position) 

Location: Galvin Middle School 

Knowledge & Qualifications:

• Current R.N. license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing required
• BSN from an accredited School of Nursing required
• DESE School Nurse certification

Dutiies & Responsibilites: 

• Health assessment; medical treatment and health counseling of students;
• Medication administration; development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of individualized medication administration care plans and individualized health care plans;
• Collaborate with other health care providers and school personnel regarding the health of students; provide emergency care to any individual in the case of injury or sudden illness;
• Organize and implement state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs (vision, hearing, postural, etc.)
• Maintain comprehensive school health records; prevention and control of communicable diseases within the schools;
• Maintain current information in a comprehensive school health records for each student based on nursing assessment and medical information, using web-based program
• Provide training to staff members, including, but not limited to Epi-Pen training, universal health precautions, basic first aid, etc.
• Adhere to various regulations related to confidentiality of information
• Respond to frequently encountered health issues, providing counseling and crisis intervention when required, including assessment, treatment and referral
• Communicate the health status of pupils to the appropriate school personnel
• Attend team meetings for the development of IEP or 504 plans that require a medical component
• Assume responsibility for continuing own education and obtain consultation, supervision and peer review as needed

Compensation: commensurate with the Unit A salary scale pro-rated
