POSITION SUMMARY:
The 5th Grade Math/Science Teacher will be responsible for teaching five sections of math and science to a diverse population of 5th-grade students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence, student-centered instruction, and a collaborative approach to teaching and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver high-quality math and science instruction to 5th-grade students.
- Plan, implement, and assess lessons aligned with district and state standards.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and conducive to academic risk-taking and student engagement.
- Incorporate strategies that promote reasoning, collaboration, productive struggle, and problem-solving.
- Differentiate instruction and services to meet the varied learning needs of all students, including those with disabilities and English learners.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and support professional reflection and goal setting.
- Communicate regularly with families through meetings, phone calls, and email regarding student progress and classroom updates.
- Collaborate with colleagues during team and PLC meetings to support student learning and share instructional practices.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires verbal and visual communication skills. The teacher must be able to move about the classroom, engage in discussions, and hear and respond to student needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Massachusetts DESE license in 5–8 Mathematics or Elementary 1–6.
- Classroom or student teaching experience at the upper elementary or middle school level.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of state and national standards and best practices in math and science instruction.
- Experience with or willingness to implement problem-based learning and performance-based assessment.
- Ability to integrate technology and diverse resources to enhance student learning.
- Commitment to collaboration, team-based planning, and a growth-oriented professional mindset.
- Belief in the success of all students, regardless of background or ability, and a dedication to high expectations for all learners.
