Position Title:                        Middle School Assistant Principal             

Reports to:                             Middle School Principal

Job Goal:

 

To assist in the administration of the middle school and to promote the educational well being of each student in the school.

 

Requirements:

 

Masters Degree and five years experience.

 

Performance Monitoring/Evaluation:

 

  1. Acts as primary evaluator of assigned faculty members and completes written evaluations.
  2. Acts as a resource person to faculty and students.
  3. Assists in the orientation of new staff and the preparation for the opening and closing of school.
  4. Interviews prospective candidates for substitute positions and recommends acceptable candidates.
  5. Assists in the evaluation of the clerical staff.
  6. Assists the Principal in interviewing new staff members.

 

Administration:

 

  1. Assists the Principal in the general administration of the school and serves as Principal in the Principal’s absence.
  2. Assists in the preparation of the student and teacher handbooks.
  3. Serves as a member of the middle school administrative team.
  4. Directs textbook and supplies requisitions, distribution and inventory.
  5. Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill activities.
  6. Supervises the preparation of state and federal reports as required.
  7. Represents the school at area meetings as assigned by the Principal.
  8. Attends all building team leadership meetings.
  9. Assists in the development of the middle school budget, equipment recommendations and specifications.
  10. Approves and organizes all school assembly programs.
  11. Assists in the creation of the master schedule.
  12. Supervises assignment of substitute teachers.
  13. Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Principal

 

Students:

 

  1. Supervises conduct of students within the school and oversees disciplinary procedures, keeping accurate records of disciplinary actions of assigned students.
  2. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and related waivers.
  3. Attends team meetings on assigned students to develop appropriate educational plans and follows-up in review sessions.
  4. Supervises the program of extra-curricular activities.
  5.  Chaperones school dances and other functions as assigned by the Principal.
  6. Develops and supervises a program for in-coming Grade 5 students.
  7. Communicates with parents/guardians of assigned students regarding absences/waivers, etc.

 

Professionalism:

 

  1. Stays abreast of Educational Reform developments and changes in the educational law/regulations.
  2. Stays abreast of curricular/co-curricular research and development.
  3. Keeps informed of new instructional practices.
  4. Promotes educational excellence at the Middle School.

 

Human and Public Relations:

 

  1. Assists the Principal relative to public information and public relations.
  2. Attends meeting of the Parent-Teacher Student Association on a bi-monthly basis or as required.
  3. Assists in preparation/presentation of school programs as school committee and other meetings.
